Teya Tap
Accepting contactless payments with just your phone.
Teya Tap is a mobile application that enables users to accept contactless payments directly on their phones. In November 2023, Teya introduced the Beta version of Teya Tap for Android.
As an innovative technology, this presents a unique opportunity to be among the pioneers in launching and scaling across Europe.

Challenge
Challenge
As "Tap to Pay" technology rapidly enters the European market, it promises a cost-effective alternative to traditional payment terminals by leveraging smartphones with NFC chips. However, its adoption presents unique challenges:
Educating Users: Merchants and customers often struggle with unfamiliar NFC interactions, compounded by inconsistent chip placements across devices.
Ensuring Seamless Onboarding: As Teya’s first fully digital product, an intuitive setup is critical to user satisfaction.
Overcoming Perception Delays: Security checks cause loading delays, risking user frustration and trust in the system.

Process
Process
In the fast-paced environment of a startup, we prioritized efficiency by leveraging existing resources. Research focused on competitor analysis and developer availability, enabling rapid decision-making. The existing design system was repurposed to streamline the process, with additional support from team members for custom illustrations.
To expedite development further, we utilized Flutter for native app development, ensuring speed and flexibility without compromising quality.

Expanding Beyond Front-End Challenges:
The project required more than just a polished front-end. We needed to design a robust sales interface that provided users with meaningful and actionable data.
This involved creating a "mini" banking app, complete with transaction lists, settlement summaries, interactive charts, and detailed metrics, ensuring users could seamlessly manage their finances within the platform.

Engagement testing
Engagement testing
In order to generate engagement, gather leads and start some "educational" storytelling around Teya Tap, we designed a landing page in a controlled environment, with a Facebook paid ads campaign.
After 2 weeks of testing, some engaging results were displayed:
264 generated leads out of 1000 people targeted
CPL was around 12€, which is a bit high
4% of people on the Teya Tap bounced to the homepage to get more informations
If we analize these metrics, we can deduct a few insights:
The engagement testing provided valuable insights that directly align with Teya Tap’s business objectives. The leads generated demonstrate strong interest, though the CPL indicates potential for cost optimization in future campaigns.
The bounce rate suggests that while users are interested, they may need additional context to convert.
These results guide the next steps in refining the marketing strategy, improving user education, and optimizing the onboarding process to boost both lead conversion and long-term user retention.

Conclusion
Conclusion
While I left the company prior to the official release, I am proud of the work that contributed to Teya Tap's successful launch in the UK in the summer of 2024. The product, currently available exclusively on Android, reflects a seamless blend of design, user-centered testing, and strategic marketing.
Moving forward, the insights gained from early engagement testing will help refine the product’s reach and impact, driving future updates and enhancing the user experience to meet both business goals and customer needs.
